councillor must be a male of the full age of twenty-one years.

Section 52 of The Municipal Jct, 1922, sets out the present qualifications for membership of a municipal council. A candidate must be:

  1. A householder residing in the municipality, or rated on the last revised assessment roll of the municipality for land held in his or her own right to an amount sufficient for voter's qualifications, and resident within two miles of the municipality;

  2. Entered on the last revised voters' list as qualified to vote at municipal elections;

  3. A British subject;

  4. Of the full age of twenty-one years.

The rating for land may be in respect of a freehold or lease held legal or equitable, or partly of each.

A householder for the purpose of this qualification means a person who occupies and is assessed as owner or tenant of a dwelling or apartment house, or part of a dwelling or apartment house separately occupied as a dwelling.
