SAMUEL LYLE, B.D.,
Hamilton, Out., -was born July
16th) r S4 r , at Knockanbo} ,
County Antrim, Ireland. He received
his education at Ballymoney and Cole-
raine High Schools, Magee College,
Londonderry, Glasgow University, and
Glasgow Free College. His parents
intended that he should take tip busi-
ness, but he chose the sacred ministry,
and after a university and theological
course of seven years, was licensed by
the Route Presbytery in iS68. The
same year he received a call from
Armagh, and another from Connor, the
largest church in the Irish Assembly,

which latter lie accepted. During his ministration there he was a member of the Mission Board, also of the Sustentation Fund, and was sent as a representative from the Irish to the `Velsli Church. While here he received calls from Belfast, Brooklyn, '-,\.Y., aiid the Central Church, Hamilton, which latter lie accepted, and Nvas inducted in 1,S78-Since residing ill Hamilton lie has served oil the Foreign Mission Board, the College Board, Knox Senate, been rice-president of the Art School, and president of Hamilton Association. 'Mr. Lyle was married ill 1870 to Elizabeth Orr, of Dublin, Ireland.
