Big Bear.   Big Bear and his braves were still on the

war path, but they were now hemmed in between General Middleton's forces and a brigade tinder General Strange, which had marched northward from Calgary.-'After a long pursuit and some sharp skirmishing, Big Bear's band was broken tip, and the chief himself surrendered. This was the last act in the rebellion.V

CAPTAIN HOWARD.

shows Captain Howard with the gatling gun used by him at.Fish
Creek and Batoche. This gallant officer afterwards fell
while bravely fighting for Britain in South Africa.
