EARLIIST CANADIAN COINS.

I. The Sloop halfpenny, a private token issued in Upper Canada. The sloop shows the chief means of conveyance ; the anvil and spades represent the industries of the country.

  1. First money struck for Canada—5 and r5 sou pieces struck at the Paris mint for circulation in the French American colonies.

  2. Bank of Montreal penny. Authorized by Act of the first Parliament of the united provinces of Upper and Lower Canada. On one side is shown a French Canadian habitant, on the other the arms of the City of Montreal.
